Our browser extensions offer the best experience for Passle users so, wherever possible we recommend using the browser extensions in favour of the bookmarklet.
In order to use the browser extensions, we need to be allowed to install them from the relevant browser extension store:-
The Chrome extension can be found here.
The Microsoft Edge extension can be found here.
All requests made by the extensions are made via https. The extensions do not track a user's browsing history or any other activity, they are solely for the purpose of allowing users to access the Passle interface more easily.
The extensions require the following three permissions in order to be installed in the browser:
This permission allows the extension to create an iFrame within the active tab, in order to load the Passle interface for the user to create a post.
The extension uses localstorage to maintain a list of domains which do not allow it to inject HTML. When used on these sites, the extension will instead open a new tab with the passle interface. We also use localstorage for testing purposes to control the environment that the extension is pointing to (eg staging).
The extension requires this permission so that it can add the context menu item to allow the user to activate it via the context menu.
Please note: due to increased use of Content Security Policies, we are in the process of changing the way the browser extensions and the bookmarklet work. In future, they will no longer attempt to create the interface in an iFrame on the active tab, but instead load the passle interface in a new tab.
